Action for East African People

Action for East African People (AFEAP) is a local 501c3 nonprofit promoting the grassroots advancement and cultivation of the East African (EA) community in Bloomington, Minnesota and surrounding areas. Specifically, the EA community we serve includes the local Somali and Ethiopian immigrant populace. As an ethnic-based community organization we create a social network within these communities. AFEAP operates as a bridge between newcomers and the receiving community to connect immigrants to resources to establish a new life, so that immigrants can contribute to the enrichment of the broader community.

Mission

The mission of Action for East African People is to act on the immediate needs of women and children living in East Africa while promoting the grassroots advancement and cultivation of the East African Community of Bloomington, Minnesota and surrounding areas.

In East Africa, our mission is to empower East African women and children while meeting their immediate needs including health, housing, economic development, education and skills training, water sanitation, and food security. In Minnesota, we are dedicated to eliminating barriers to successful integration for new Americans by challenging inequalities and developing access to health, housing, culture, employment and education.

Minnesota Vision

Empowering East African immigrants towards self-sufficiency and integration through culturally responsive initiatives that strengthen and enrich our community

As a community hub, we strive for the preservation of the languages and traditions of new arrivals which is vital for community growth as well as social and economic empowerment. In the United States, we are headquartered in Minneapolis, MN with an additional office located in Washington DC.

International Vision

AFEAP has been committed to international development with a specialized focus on East African women and children.

We are opening project operations in 3 Countries: Somalia, Ethiopia and Djibouti. In East Africa, we have offices in Mogadishu, Somalia, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Djibouti with our international headquarters located in Nairobi, Kenya.

Taking Action Now
